Holocaust Survivors in a New Land: The New Americans Social Club of New Orleans
“Holocaust Survivors in a New Land” tells the story of how those who suffered under the Nazi regime made it to the United States after WWII, were helped by local Jewish communities, and made new lives for themselves in the South. With a special focus on the formation and activities of the New Americans Social Club in New Orleans, the exhibition shines a light on a part of our country’s immigration history that can provide lessons for us today. The exhibition offers insight into how these survivors came together in their new home to offer support: practical, social, religious, and more.
The exhibition features photographs, stories of individual survivors’ lives before during, and after the war, letters, and even multimedia displays that bring to life the gatherings of the New Americans Club.
